Happy 4th of July to all of our friends and family!
We tried to figure out a place to take Alex to watch the fireworks, but they started too late and we were a bit worried about how the loud noise would affect him. We finally decided to stick around the house and see what people were shooting off in our neighborhood.
Our neighbors down the street started shooting some off and Alex REALLY liked them. His face lit up everytime they would light one off! After a few minutes, Uncle PJ decided to go get some of our own. When he got back, Larry and Uncle PJ went to work setting off a few fireworks of our own.
Alex was in awe of the "wireworks"! As soon as one would go off, he would tell Larry and PJ "one more wirework, please"! It was incredible to watch his face light up :)

Happy Easter!
Happy Easter - from our family to yours!
I have to be honest....with the move and everything going on in our lives, we completely forgot that Easter was coming so quickly! When I spoke with our realtor, Susan Baldwin, the day before our final home walk-thru, she asked what our plans were for Easter. I asked her when Easter was and she told me that it was this coming weekend. I told her that I had absolutely no plans and that the Easter bunny may not be visiting our house this year. She told me not to worry, that she would take care of a basket and eggs for Alex. We are so grateful to have found her - she has been an absolute blessing to us!
At our walk-thru, she arrived and did not disappoint. She had a beautifully wrapped and filled Easter basked for Alex. She also had about two dozen plastic eggs that she had filled with candy and money for Alex. We are so thankful for her kindness - it definitely alleviated a little stress from my life!
On Easter Eve (is that even what it is called?), we hid the little plastic eggs around the house and set out Alex's Easter basket!
Easter morning, Alex woke up and started to find the eggs hidden around the house. At first, he would open an egg, get so excited at the contents and forget that there were more eggs to be found. Eventually, he realized it was a much better idea to collect all the eggs and THEN open them up to find his treasures. He loved the candy filled ones - and ate several before he ate breakfast. As he opened the ones filled with money, he would take the coins (or dollar bills) out and say "my money"! His Easter basket was sitting on the coffee table and once he discovered it, he could hardly wait to tear into it! More chocolately, candy goodness - my boy definitely has a sweet tooth!!

Because he had a great time hunting and finding the Easter eggs, while Alex was taking his afternoon nap Larry and I decided to re-fill the Easter eggs from his morning hunt (yes, we re-used the candy) and re-hide them in the yard! It was perfect weather and we knew that we would be outside most of the afternoon anyway!
Once he woke up, he was so excited to run around the yard and find more eggs! He got just as excited each time he found one and didn't seem to notice that we recycled the Easter candy from that morning! he ran around the yard collecting eggs. Once all the eggs were found and more chocolate was consumed, he rode his truck around the yard, played with his golf clubs and played tee-ball!

Christmas Pictures
As much as I love Christmas, I have never had as much fun as we did this year! Alex was absolutely amazed by the tree, lights and presents. When he first woke up, Larry went in and got him and tried to keep him occupied in his room while I set up the webcam, video camera and lights on the tree. Alex heard me talking and when we finally let him out of his room, instead of running towards the presents and tree he ran straight for Mommy! I gave him hugs, kisses and showed him the tree - I have never seen his eyes get so big!
Alex ran right up to his presents and started opening them right away! It was priceless watching him run from present to present, smiling and laughing! It took nearly 1.5 hours to open all of his presents - between opening them (which involved taking off every scrap of paper on EACH and EVERY present) and taking them out of the packaging to play with them!

Grandpa Larry and Aunt Claudia came down to visit a few days after Christmas and brought Alex another present to open! He got a NASCAR Racecar Helmet that makes noise when you put it on! Alex loves it! He also loves to make other people wear his helmet, slam the eye piece shut and say "bye-bye"! Very funny and very cute!

Aunt Sheena also came to visit after Christmas and she brought with her more presents! Alex loved unwrapping and getting a HUGE Diego ball pit from Aunt Sheena! After he unwrapped it, I told her that it would be the perfect present to keep at her apartment after we move to Huntsville :) Afterall, he does need presents there, too!

Presents from Aunt Jenny & Nona Lynn
On Christmas Eve, we let Alex open his gifts from Aunt Jenny and Nona Lynn (Jenny's Mom).
Jenny got him two Geo-Trax sets, a Handy Manny Toy and two pairs of PJ's (Wonder Pets and Buzz Lightyear). Nona Lynn got him a tool box with a spinning/working drill and a super-cute long sleeve shirt. As much as Alex loved the toys, he loved the Wonder Pet jammies just as much. We changed into them shortly after opening them!
Thank you both Jenny and Lynn! Thank you for caring enough about our son to include him in your holiday shopping. It means to the world to us to know that we have such amazing friends/family like you! We truly are blessed!

Larry & Sarah's Christmas
Larry and I decided to open our presents to each other on December 23. We wanted Christmas to be all about Alex and we knew that he wouldn't give us too much opprotunity to open presents that weren't for him.
It was nice to spend time with Larry, listening to Christmas music and opening our presents.
I got Larry a new pair of Oakley's (to replace the ones that he left in London), a new iPod (to replace the one that was stolen from our car), several Alabama shirts, an Alabama Columbia Fleece jacket, a pair of Nike shoes (that should be here in a few weeks) and some fun stocking stuffers. Oh, for those of you that don't know, I ordered Larry a specially made, very pricey watch for TPS graduation. Because of the expense, it is also considered part of his Christmas gift as well.
Larry got me a new watch, a pink North Face Pull-Over jacket, a gift certificate to the spa for a massage, a Coach Purse and for my last present, the Apple Mac Computer that I have been drooling over for several years now. When he gave me the Mac, he told me that it was for both Christmas and for being such a big help to him this past year in TPS. It was nice that he recognized that and it made the gift so much more special.
We were both definitely spoiled this year, but after the past year in Maryland, it was very well-deserved :)

Christmas Cards
Since we will be moving this weekend, Larry and I worked extra hard to get our Christmas cards in the mail before we left Maryland. We were successful and they all went in the mail yesterday. If I have your address, you should be getting your card later this week.
However, I am so excited about the design of them, that I can't help but sharing! My friend Amanda has an Etsy shop (http://www.littlebeanshop.etsy.com/) and she designs holiday cards, gift and note cards, digital scrapbooking supplies and even does a little sewing! I definitely recommend contacting her if you need anything done - she is amazing!
I sent her my six favorite pictures from this past year (well, really just this past month or so) and she designed four cards for me. I selected two of the designs and put them inside our Christmas cards. I absolutely love them and hope you will, too!

So, I Might Not Be Betty Crocker...
...but I sure can cook a GREAT Thanksgiving meal! We had turkey (from the bag), cranberry sauce (the kind that looks like a can when you take it out of the can), cheesy hashbrown potatoes, sweet potatoes (with yummy marshmallows on top), stuffing (Stove Top - we like it best) and orange jello (my absolute favorite holiday food). Oh, and for dessert, I made the preztel/jello thing.
I don't mean to toot my own horn, but it turned out really good! We have enough food to feed a small Army, but at least we will know what we will be eating for the next few days!

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
Today, since Alex is getting over being sick, we are going to be spending Thanksgiving at home, relaxing. We will be eating turkey (our famous bag turkey that we LOVE), stuffing (Stove Top - because I am not nearly brave enough to attempt my Mom's), cranberry sauce, cheesy hashbrown potatoes, orange jello (no holiday is complete without it) and for dessert, pretzel salad (YUMMY!)!
Does that sound like enough for two adults and a child that doesn't eat much?! I know that I completely overcook - it is a trait that I get from my Mom!
Now that the stress of Larry's DT2 report is over, we are finally able to enjoy time together as a family and that is something that I am truly thankful for!
This year, we are thankful for the opportunities that have been presented to us this past year, thankful for our health and happiness, thankful for our wonderful families and amazing friends, thankful for our beautiful son and thankful for each and every blessing that God has set before us this year (and in the years past)!

Betty Crocker...I am NOT!
In an attempt to be a little more domesticated and enjoy some of the traditions I loved growing up, Larry and I made cut-out cookies tonight! We cut a few corners and used the pre-made Pillsbury sugar cookie mix. After rolling out the dough, we cut-out the cute little patterns - we even let Alex join in on the fun and press down a few cut-outs.
We thought that we were doing great...until the first batch came out of the oven! They were unrecognizable and all squished together. We thought maybe we didn't roll out the dough enough, but the subsequent batches didn't look much better...they were VERY thin (think Wheat Thins).
We are hoping that once they are iced they will look a little better (not likely, since we plan on having Alex help with that, too)!
I really miss my Mom - she had cookie making down to an art! Larry and I are hoping that by the time Alex realizes what we are doing, our cookie attempts won't be so pitiful!

Fourth of July
This year for the Fourth of July, we took Alex to the park in the morning, came home so he could take a nap, ate some dinner and then headed over to the Naval Base (where Larry's school is) to watch the fireworks.
We didn't have a great view of the fireworks since we weren't sure where they would be doing them from. Fortunately though, we were far enough away from them that Alex didn't get too scared. He watched them safely from my lap!

Christmas with the Kritner's (and Worley's)
This year we had Christmas with Larry’s family on Saturday, December 20, 2008. Sheena and Trey got here on Friday (to watch Alex for us while we went to Larry’s work Christmas party) and Becky, Pete and Josh got here on Saturday around noon! Becky, Pete and Josh got here right as Alex went down for his nap, so Larry and I thought that would be a great time for the adults to exchange Christmas presents. We figured it would be a good idea to open presents without having to worry about Alex running around and getting into everything ;) We gave our presents to everyone – I think everyone was happy with what we got them!
After presents, Larry and I got to cooking! We had turkey, ham, cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, orange jell-o and rolls. Like I always, I make enough for a small army (another wonderful trait my mother instilled in me)! We didn’t eat until after Alex woke up – I didn’t want him to miss lunch!
Once Alex woke up, we let him open his presents. He was hysterical! He would rip a piece of paper off a present and say “OH!”, hand me the piece of paper, and repeat the process. We can definitely tell that Christmas morning is going to be a SLOW process! Alex got four sets of Little People, three sippy-straw cups and four outfits from Aunt Sheena and Uncle Trey, a pair of Superman pajamas from Uncle Josh and a tool kit from Grandma Becky and Grandpa Pete.
Since we were opening presents, we let him open his present from Aunt Jenny, Uncle Keith, Kyle and Katelyn – they got him the Little People Raceway! He loves it! He will sit and watch the cars go around and around. He also opened a present from Karen, Tony, Xavier and Jesse Soto – they got him a Fold and Go Train! The little train goes around the track and makes all sorts of “choo-choo” noises! Another hit!
After lunch, we all hung around for a little while watching Alex and his latest antics. He sure does know how to keep a crowd entertained! He would run from person to person and from toy to toy! He loves attention – I certainly don’t know who he got that from (wink, wink)!!
Becky and Pete left around 5 – but, they let Josh stay for an extra day! It was nice to just have the siblings here, hanging out together. It is something that we don’t get too often and something that we treasure when we do get! The boys had a great time playing Xbox together and Sheena and I had a good time hanging out! PJ didn’t come home for the weekend and he was greatly missed.

Larry's Work Christmas Party
Larry and I had a chance to get dressed up and go mingle with other adults – it was his annual Christmas party! The attire for the party is formal, so I was able to wear my bridesmaid dress from Sheena’s wedding. Since it was a red color, it was absolutely perfect for the holiday season!
We had already planned to have Christmas with the Kritner’s (and Worley’s), so Sheena and Trey came down early on Friday afternoon to watch Alex for us Friday night! It was nice to not have to worry about Alex – we knew he was in great hands!
It was fun to be able to go and hang out with other adults and have “adult conversation”! We got the chance to hear great advice about Test Pilot School and have a bunch of laughs! We had a great meal, had some pictures taken and we were even able to share a dance! We had a great night!
